Remove a passport photo background

Runs portrait matting on this device and places the subject on a flat white backdrop. Files stay on your device.

How this works locally
  1. You choose a file; the page reads it from your device.
  2. The matching engine is loaded from fileslimmer.com and runs in a Web Worker.
  3. The result is written back to a location you choose on this device.

Estimated memory

Your browser reports only a coarse memory hint, so this figure is an estimate.

Limits applied before your file is read
Device profileLargest fileLargest image
Minimal40 MiB16 megapixels
Low75 MiB24 megapixels
Balanced150 MiB40 megapixels
High250 MiB60 megapixels

Your browser is placed in one of these profiles from the coarse hints it exposes. A file above the limit is refused before it is read, rather than after the tab has run out of memory. On an iPhone or iPad a further ceiling applies whatever the profile — largest image: 16 megapixels — because mobile Safari reclaims a tab's memory far more abruptly than the hints can predict.

Limitations
  • The matting model runs on your device and is downloaded once. Fine hair, motion blur, glass and reflective edges are where its cut-out is weakest.
  • The segmentation model is downloaded from this domain once, on your first run, and then works offline. Nothing can be processed until that download has finished.
  • Edges are softened by 1 pixel so the cut-out does not look stamped on. A subject with genuinely hard edges will read as slightly soft because of it.
