Convert HEIC photos to PNG

Turn iPhone HEIC photos into lossless PNG files. Files stay on your device.

How this works locally
  1. You choose a file; the page reads it from your device.
  2. The matching engine is loaded from fileslimmer.com and runs in a Web Worker.
  3. The result is written back to a location you choose on this device.

HEIC is read but never written: FileSlimmer decodes HEIC and does not encode it.

Estimated memory

Your browser reports only a coarse memory hint, so this figure is an estimate.

Limits applied before your file is read
Device profileLargest fileLargest imageFiles per batch
Minimal40 MiB32 megapixels50
Low75 MiB50 megapixels100
Balanced150 MiB90 megapixels250
High250 MiB150 megapixels500

Your browser is placed in one of these profiles from the coarse hints it exposes. A file above the limit is refused before it is read, rather than after the tab has run out of memory.

Limitations
  • A HEIC file can hold a burst, a Live Photo or a depth map. FileSlimmer decodes the primary still image and leaves the rest behind.
  • The output format is lossless, so the file is often larger than the source. That is the trade for adding no new compression artefacts.
  • The capture orientation is applied to the pixels rather than left in a tag, so the result is upright even in software that ignores rotation metadata.
  • EXIF, GPS and XMP data are removed from the output. Anything visible in the picture itself — a street sign, a screen, a reflection — is untouched by that.
