What FileSlimmer is
FileSlimmer is a set of 44 file tools — image compression and conversion, HEIC decoding, background removal, PDF work, code minification and video re-encoding — that run inside your own browser. The site is a collection of static files. There is no upload endpoint, no API, no database and no server-side function anywhere in the deployment, so there is nothing for a file to be sent to.
The tools are published in 30 languages. Guides and information pages become indexable in a language when their complete translation is available. Pages that still show English are marked noindex and excluded from language alternates and sitemaps. Translation does not imply legal review.
Why the work happens on your device
A conventional online compressor takes a copy of your file, does the work on a machine you cannot inspect, and asks you to trust a sentence about what happened next. Modern browsers no longer require that. WebAssembly, Web Workers, WebCodecs and WebGPU can run the same codecs locally, which removes the copy, the queue and the retention question together.
That trade is not free, and the site says so where it matters: a phone has far less memory than a laptop, an AVIF encode is slow, and a long video may be refused before it is read. The methodology page describes how the local-processing property is enforced in the build and how you can verify it yourself.
What FileSlimmer is not
- Not a storage or backup service — nothing you process is kept anywhere.
- Not an account product — there is no sign-up, no profile and no login.
- Not a malware scanner, an OCR engine or a prepress colour-management system.
- Not a signature-preserving PDF product: rasterizing a signed PDF invalidates its signature, and the tool warns before it runs.
How it is funded
Advertising, analytics and consent tooling are all switched off at launch, and the build fails if any of them appears in the output. If advertising is enabled later it will not appear on file-processing workspaces, on this page, or on any privacy, legal or methodology page, and the privacy statement will be updated before it does.
